It’s amazing how far the music industry has evolved. Today we have so many genres of music that each person either likes or doesn’t. Hip-hop Beats have evolved through the years as producers continued to find a niche in what people wanted to hear. Beat makers have always come up with creative sounding Beats and rappers alike have spitted out lyrics to fit these samples. The real emergence of hip-hop however came during the golden age of hip-hop. The golden age produced artists such as 2Pac, Nas, Notorious B.I.G Snoop Dogg, DMX, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Jay-Z. These rappers paved the way of hip-hop today with their classic songs and hard Beats. The mid 90′s produced these popular artists and their songs carried over crowds. Rivalries were even born due to the whole East Coast and West Coast feud. With this fire fueled more impressive and classic songs such as BIG’s “Juicy”, Nas’ “The World is Yours”, Jay-Z’s “Feelin’ It”, and Pac’s “Changes”. These Rap Beats brought their lyrics to life and will always be remembered as some of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time. The golden age made use of heavy beats and bass lines, with a sort of funky use of the bass guitar and other simple instruments.
After the golden age of rap more artists emerged to try and carry the torch. A good example would be Kanye West and the Neptunes. These artists revolutionized the rap industry today creating great sounding samples and beats for popular artists or for their own. This time however, more elements were added such as the use of various instruments and sound effects. Popular pop and indie songs have also been used for samples to some of the most popular beats of the last decade such as “Stronger” by Kanye West using Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” and “The Spins” by Mac Miller using “Half Mast” by Empire of the Sun. Songs that have been a hit this year include producer Stargate’s “Black and Yellow” by Wiz Khalifa and “What’s My Name” by Rihanna and Drake. The power of rap beats allied with good lyrics has always produced nothing but success in the music industry and it continues to do so.
